Our Ceramics

The ceramics throughout The Liberty Inn tell a story of care, intention, and artistry, made by hand in our ceramics studio just down the street. Over 10,000 tiles were shaped and glazed to bring character and warmth to the inn’s floors and walls. From the plates and bowls in your suite to the intricate tiles underfoot, each piece was thoughtfully created by Jacqui Liberty, co-owner of The Liberty Inn and the artist behind Soft Fire Ceramics

made by hand

Jacqui discovered her passion for pottery over 15 years ago while pursuing her Master’s Degree in Public Health, using ceramics as a creative outlet. After years of experimenting with clay, she returned to the potter’s wheel after the birth of her twins, finding renewed purpose in her craft.

Beyond creating small batches of functional ceramics, Jacqui shares her love of the craft by teaching others the art of working with clay, ensuring her passion for handmade beauty is passed on to others.

The Studio

Our ceramics studio is located right here in the village of Alton in a beautiful old stone church. Tinted light pours through the original stained glass windows casting different colours in the space as the light moves through the day.

Here we get lost in time on the potters wheel, craft handmade tiles, and teach workshops to local curious and creative minds. Workshops are offered in a series four times a year for those looking to learn a new craft, pick-up an old hobby, or just enjoy the therapeutic benefits of creating something on the wheel.
